Parent Resources

Why Parent Involvement Matters

Scouting is strongest when families are part of the journey. Parents who pitch in—whether by driving to campouts, helping plan events, or just showing up to cheer their Scouts on—make a huge difference. Your involvement shows Scouts that what they’re doing matters. It builds community, creates shared memories, and strengthens the values at the heart of Scouting. You don’t need experience—just a willingness to jump in and support.

Giving Back, Growing Together

Being involved in Scouting as a parent isn’t just about helping out—it’s about growing with your child. Through volunteering, parents model leadership, service, and teamwork. Whether you're leading an activity, mentoring a badge, or lending your skills behind the scenes, you're helping build something lasting. Scouts notice. They learn what it means to give back—and how to lead with heart, just like you.

Parent Involvement in Troop Life

Scouting is a team effort—and that includes you! Troops are run by volunteers, and your involvement is key to helping your Scout succeed and keeping our program strong. Here’s how you can support:

Your Role as a Scout Parent

  • Encourage independence. Let your Scout take the lead—packing for trips, tracking advancement, and solving problems are all part of the learning process.

  • Stay informed. We use Scoutbook for calendars, communication, advancement, and RSVPs. Parents should stay active in checking updates.

  • Check your email. Troop communication happens primarily by email (and occasionally a private Facebook group), so staying on top of it helps everyone.

  • Support fundraising. Scouts are responsible for fundraising efforts like popcorn or camp cards, but your help makes a huge difference.

Volunteer Opportunities

Scouting runs best with lots of helping hands. Whether you can help at a single campout, drive to an event, or serve in an official role, there’s a place for everyone. Your participation:

  1. Deepens your Scout’s experience.

  2. Helps the troop offer the best possible program.

Ways to Volunteer

  • Uniformed Leaders (Scoutmaster, Assistant Scoutmasters) help guide and teach Scouts directly.

  • Troop Committee members handle behind-the-scenes support and planning.

  • Merit Badge Counselors share their knowledge on specific skills—no experience required, just a willingness to help!

  • Event Helpers assist with campouts, banquets, service projects, or even just lend a hand at summer camp.

  • Board of Review Members help review Scouts' progress and encourage reflection at rank advancements (no uniform needed).

Youth Protection

All registered leaders and merit badge counselors are required to take Youth Protection Training (YPT). Adults attending overnight events must also complete it. This ensures the safety and well-being of all our Scouts.
